Flight

Inspired by my 24-day stay at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in the summer of 1999.


Climbing
in southern California,
with an empty water bottle,
parched, blistered, and bee-stung,
I sit above the hawks and can’t imagine
what holds them down.
